Jonas Vanderbeke Belgian, b. 1993

Overview

Jonas Vanderbeke is on a continuous journey of experimentation within the realm of painting. Drawing inspiration from the juxtaposition of digital precision as part of the process, and human imperfection, Jonas's work unfolds as a dynamic interplay between digital collages and canvas. Jonas’s research is characterized by a sharp aestheticism that culminates in a celebration of the artificial, of a contrastful coherence, of painting that holds a mirror to itself.

His paintings  emerge as a celebration of colour and form. Each piece is a testament to his commitment to capturing the essence of the narratives that inspire him. His paintings unleash a game, one that obscures and hides at the same time, makes old symbols unfamiliar or anew. Whether this is a 19th century novel by French writer Joris-karl Huysmans, or a pop song by Lana Del Rey. They lose their usual meaning and are disconnected. They no longer reference in the way they did before.

Jonas Vanderbeke (1993) graduated in 2016 as a master in visual arts, fine arts, painting at the School of Arts KASK in Ghent. He lives and works in Ghent.
