Joséphine Suillaud b. 1998
Born in France in 1998, sche lives and works now in Brussels.
She holds a Master’s degree in Painting from the École nationale supérieure des arts visuels de La Cambre, Brussels, where she was awarded the Moonens Prize.
Her practice engages with matter through repetition and variation: she glues, tears, scrapes, scratches, incises, folds, crumples, covers, and sands. These gestures oscillate between brutality and delicacy, always leaving space for the unexpected. In the studio, she embraces surprise, attentive to the richness and beauty that materials themselves can unveil. Her approach is almost instrumental, she considers a painting complete when it appears to have emerged by its own accord.
