Emma Terweduwe Belgian, b. 1996
Emma Terweduwe is a Belgian textile artist specialising in jacquard weaving. After graduating in Textile Design from Ghent’s KASK Royal Academy of Fine Arts, the artist has collaborated with various institutions and brands, from Henrik Vibskov and Bless to the Tilburg Textile Museum, before establishing her own studio by the end of 2020. Emma has recently been awarded the Henry van de Velde bronze awards (2022) with the Gradient Rug which was developed in cooperation with the TextielLab in Tilburg.
Emma's pieces are combining natural and durable materials, strong and colourful graphic design, and her unique process of felting woven fabrics. By making textiles that are meant to stimulate our sense of touch, the artist offers a critique on our fast-paced and superficial society, which increasingly values appearance over substance.
