Toon Jans b. 1994

Overview
Toon Jans explores the relationship between humans and their environment. Recurring themes include ecology, conservation, and the underwater world. While human figures rarely appear in my landscapes, their presence is felt through the traces and impacts they leave behind.

Through his practice, He channels his fascination with the world and its inhabitants into a visual narrative that invites viewers to reflect on their own connection to the natural world. His aim is not to provide solutions, but to foster a deeper awareness of the complex, often contradictory ways in which we engage with our surroundings.

His creative process begins in the darkroom, where he develop images from his photographic archive to create a distinct atmosphere and texture. The artist then integrates a range of materials-organic and synthetic-experimenting with their interactions to reinforce underlying themes. This mixed-media approach allows him to explore the interplay between the organic and the artificial, resulting in works that highlight both connection and contrast within our environment.
