Overview

BOOK A STUDIO VISIT  KEEP ME UPDATED ON NEW ARTWORKS

Vincent Chenut lives and works in Brussels after graduating from ENAV La Cambre in 2011.

Through his works, Vincent re-actualizes the question of representation (through figuration as well as abstraction). How can we account for the thickness of things?  How to materialize the infinite layering of the existing (human tissue, geological strata, etc.)? Vincent Chenut answers this question in part by doing a work of destruction. He adopts a singular modus operandi: the peeling of the drawing, literally and figuratively.

Vincent Chenut has exhibited at Museum Van Buuren, Botanique, Fondation Moonens and 10n in Brussels, and galerie Praz Delavallade in Paris amongst others.

"Thinned out and weakened, it offers a transparency that allows the artist to carry out manipulations worthy of a painter: playing with layers and superimpositions of colours like paper glazes. On the back, a colour can then become the background on which a piece lifted from a different colour will be repositioned." - Marie Cantos, independent curator
